The robots also come with Carpet Boost, a feature which boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare, and they are particularly adept at cleaning dog hair. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top pick. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's therefore prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of a room.
It's still a great option for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also very quiet and can be used while you're at work, or school. The only thing it's missing that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle, however. If you need to mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its smart cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors that help it stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to provide cleaner and more efficient cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to similar models.

It did a great cleaning job on various floors and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was superb and it was able to avoid fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.
It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
With an elegant circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxy units This mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive looking models in our tests. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It comes with advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).
It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.
Its vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house in accordance with the degree of dirt they tend to be.
For larger homes it's worth looking for a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a specific area of your home by using the app or via voice commands. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have number of furniture. For families with busy schedules, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be very useful.

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you might think from its price. It is a good vacuum cleaner and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or organize an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas to improve performance. The app also gives access to a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can reach corners and underneath furniture better. It also has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans the area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is louder than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive and a small base station that can't double as a bin for emptying.
